Il Polo Professionale “Luigi Scarambone” nasce il 1° settembre 2012, in base alla delibera della Giunta Regionale Puglia del 25.1.2012, n. 125,dall’unione tra l’ex ISISS L. Scarambone e l’ex IPSIA G.Marconi.
L’Istituto “L. SCARAMBONE” fondato nel 1867 nel Comune di Lecce e riconosciuto nel 1868 dalla Provincia, perviene alla parificazione di Scuola Regia Statale nel 1875.L’Istituto è intitolato a Luigi Scarambone (1794-1856) patriota, deputato al Parlamento napoletano del 1848, architetto militare e ufficiale dell’esercito borbonico.
Nel 1941 assume la denominazione di “Scuola Tecnica Commerciale”. Con Decreto del Presidente della Repubblica Giovanni Gronchi il 1° ottobre 1960 diviene “Istituto Professionale di Stato per il Commercio” sino al 1° settembre 2000 quando assume la denominazione attuale di ” Istituto Statale di Istruzione Secondaria Superiore.” Fino all’a.s. 2008/09 è stato collocato in uno storico edificio nel cuore della città di Lecce, in via R. Caracciolo, 30. Dall’a.s. 2012/13, a seguito dell’accorpamento dell’IPSIA “G. Marconi”, è in via D. Birago, 89.
L’istituto Professionale Statale per l’Industria e l’Artigianato “G. Marconi” fu istituito agli inizi degli anni ’50 specializzandosi, nel corso degli anni in settori di sviluppo qualil’elettrotecnica, l’elettronica e le telecomunicazioni, lameccanica, la termotecnica, l’ottica e l’edilizia.
