L’Istituto comprende l’Istituto Tecnico del Settore Tecnologico (diurno e serale) e il Liceo Artistico. L’Istituto Tecnico prevede un biennio comune, dopo il quale gli studenti possono scegliere uno dei seguenti tre indirizzi: “C.A.T. Costruzioni, Ambiente e Territorio” (che sostituisce il tradizionale I.T.G.); “Geotecnica”;“Tecnologia del legno nelle costruzioni Bioarchitettura”. Questa evoluzione rappresenta un cambiamento importante che coniuga preparazione generale e specializzazione per formare professionalità adeguate alle richieste del mercato del lavoro ed alle trasformazioni in atto nel settore delle costruzioni. Il diploma conseguito prevede l’accesso a tutte le facoltà universitarie e permette sbocchi professionali nel settore pubblico e privato nell’ambito di uffici tecnici, di progettazione, studi immobiliari, nonché l’avvio alla libera professione.
Il Liceo Artistico si pone come finalità educativa la formazione all’arte, nelle sua duplice funzione di conservazione e promozione del patrimonio artistico e proiezione verso le ultime frontiere dell’arte moderna, proponendosi come scuola-laboratorio, in cui l’educazione ai diversi linguaggi artistici non è alternativa alle altre discipline, ma interagisce con queste, al fine di potenziare e orientare le attitudini creative ed espressive degli studenti. L’offerta formativa è articolata in quattro indirizzi: Architettura e ambiente, Arti figurative, Design e Audiovisivo multimediale.

Una scuola che “orienta” è una scuola che pone uno studente nella condizione di credere in se stesso, saper affrontare e risolvere problemi, sapersi relazionare con gli altri ed effettuare scelte consapevoli.
Per fare ciò una scuola deve immergere lo studente nella realtà del territorio e permettere ai ragazzi di sviluppare competenze adeguate alle sue richieste. L’attività orientativa dell’istituto si esplica in tre fasi distinte – orientamento in ingresso, in itinere e in uscita- ciascuna delle quali è articolata in progetti specifici che coniugano esperienze didattiche e formative in relazione con il territorio e la realtà extrascolastica.
Con il progetto Alternanza Scuola-Lavoro, struttura portante del Piano dell’Offerta Formativa, l’IIS Canova organizza stage e conferenze informative, simulazioni d’impresa, progetti nazionali e locali in rete con scuole, aziende, enti pubblici, privati.
Gli studenti vi possono conseguire l’ECDL AutoCAD architettonico. Il diploma tecnico e artistico offre opportunità di inserimento immediato in studi tecnici e/o grafici, imprese del settore, enti ed aziende pubbliche e private, agenzie immobiliari e la possibilità di accedere alle maggiori facoltà universitarie (Architettura e Ingegneria, Agraria ed Economia, Restauro e Conservazione dei Beni Culturali…) oltre all’esercizio della libera professione.
