Sono stati resi noti oggi i nomi dei vincitori del concorso annuale della Commissione
europea per giovani traduttori “Juvenes Translatores“, riservato agli studenti delle scuole secondarie.
La vincitrice italiana è la studentessa genovese Laura Barberis, che frequenta il Liceo Internazionale Linguistico “Grazia Deledda”
La sua insegnante Rossella Risso ha così commentato la vittoria di Laura: “Dal 1872 la nostra scuola promuove una cultura aperta e internazionale e quindi siamo particolarmente onorati per questo importante riconoscimento europeo al nostro istituto, a Laura e a tutti i nostri studenti che quotidianamente sono impegnati assieme a noi con passione e entusiasmo”.
Una passione espressa al meglio anche da una frase riportata sul sito della scuola:
“a conoscenza delle lingue veicolari europee è una precondizione senza la quale nulla è pensabile”.
Il concorso “Juvenes Translatores” (“giovani traduttori” in latino) è organizzato ogni anno dalla Direzione generale della Traduzione della Commissione europea.
Il suo obiettivo è promuovere l’apprendimento delle lingue nelle scuole e permettere ai giovani di farsi un’idea di come funziona il mestiere del traduttore.
Il concorso è aperto a studenti diciassettenni delle scuole secondarie (quest’anno hanno partecipato ragazzi nati nel 1996) e si svolge contemporaneamente in tutte le scuole selezionate nell’Unione europea.
Più di 3 000 adolescenti di 751 scuole hanno partecipato al concorso e le loro traduzioni sono state valutate dai traduttori professionisti della Commissione. I vincitori, uno per ciascuno Stato membro, saranno invitati alla cerimonia di premiazione a Bruxelles l’8 aprile 2014, quando riceveranno un trofeo direttamente da Androulla Vassiliou, Commissaria europea responsabile per l’Istruzione, la cultura,il multilinguismo e la gioventù.
“Le abilità linguistiche aprono la mente, arricchiscono la vita e possono migliorare l’occupabilità . Voglio incoraggiare un maggior numero di giovani a studiare le lingue. Dobbiamo fare in modo che i ragazzi siano consapevoli di tutti i vantaggi pratici che ne derivano, dalla capacità di parlare nella lingua locale quando si viaggia alle maggiori opportunità occupazionali, un fattore molto importante in un’epoca in cui molti hanno difficoltà a trovare lavoro nel proprio paese” ha affermato la Commissaria Vassiliou.
I traduttori della Commissione europea organizzano questo concorso dal 2007 per condividere la loro passione per le lingue. Gli studenti che hanno partecipato alle prove lo scorso novembre potevano scegliere una qualsiasi delle centinaia di combinazioni possibili a partire dalle 24 lingue ufficiali dell’UE: questa volta hanno tradotto complessivamente in 157 combinazioni, il numero più alto mai
registrato.
La popolarità del concorso è andata crescendo di anno in anno sia per il numero dei
partecipanti che per la diffusione geografica: hanno partecipato studenti da La
Réunion, 2 000 kilometri a sud dell’Equatore, fino a Kittilä in Finlandia, a nord
del Circolo polare artico.
“Due ore in silenzio trascorse in concentrazione non facevano pensare a un
esame” ricorda Paula Schembri, la vincitrice maltese dell’edizione 2008 che ora,
cinque anni dopo, è tirocinante presso il servizio di traduzione della Commissione.
Per la maggior parte dei giovani vincitori il viaggio a Bruxelles in aprile potrebbe
essere la prima visita alla capitale belga, ma se seguono l’esempio di Paula potrebbe
non essere l’ultima.
